Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital triumphs again at Teeing Up Fore Health Care golf classic!

Supporters of the fourth annual Teeing Up Fore Health Care golf classic held on June 12 scored a hole-in-one by raising $27,696 for the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Realtors at RE/MAX Quinte Ltd. in Prince Edward County teed up their support to improve the care patients receive at Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital by directing the proceeds from the tournament toward the Hospital Foundation’s current campaign for medical equipment, specifically for the purchase of two ventilators used in our Emergency Department.

These portable ventilators provide life support for transporting critically ill patients from one hospital to another. The ventilator breathes for these patients who are unable to breathe for themselves. This machine is also able to provide oxygen under pressure with a mask similar to a machine used for treating sleep apnea. Acquiring this new equipment cost $31,902 for two ventilators and we are happy to report this equipment is now operational in our hospital.

Last year’s tournament in 2017 netted over $27,500 for an upgrade to the telemetry (heart monitoring) equipment at PECMH. This year’s achievement brings the four-year total raised through RE/MAX’s efforts to just over $94,000 which will bring the mercury in the thermometer outside their Lake Street office to $233,696 RE/MAX has committed to raising $250,000 for medical equipment needs at our County Hospital.

Twenty-one foursomes teed off under sunny skies to enjoy 18 holes on the picturesque and challenging course at the Picton Golf and Country Club, a Par 72 course.

“The Teeing Up Fore Health Care committee are very grateful for the tremendous support from the community To achieve a net of $27,696 is truly outstanding. Kudos to all. Special thanks are extended to Wilkinson and Company Chartered Accountants and Tax Specialists who came in as the title sponsor for the tournament for the fourth year. Also chipping in their support as corporate sponsors were CIBC Mobile Mortgage Advisors, Market High Advertising, Herb Pliwischkies, Parkside Landscaping and Contracting and Wellings of Picton and Taskforce Engineering. As well, Jamie Yeo of Sobey’s in Picton sponsored the barbecue lunch while Huff Estates donated the wine for the take away bags. Again, we were blessed with approximately 40 local businesses who came on board as hole sponsors, thus showing their support for PECMH.” said Briar Boyce, communications co-ordinator for the PECMH Foundation.

Picton Home Hardware and Building Centre donated the prizes for the hole activities and top foursome. The winners of the various activities throughout the day were as follows:

Longest Drive Competition:
Male = Greg Parker Female = Sarah Dean

Closest to the Pin:
Male = Brett Hele Female = Sarah Graydon

Winning foursome: Robert Quaiff, Brad Quaiff, John Haynes and Chris Rice at 11 under par.

The live auction portion of the evening saw wonderful prizes donated by the Waring House, Brookstreet Hotel, and Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment.

“The Foundation raises money in our community for the purchase of priority medical equipment needed for patient care at PECMH. Each year, our County hospital staff treats more than 18,000 in our Emergency Department alone! The Foundation’s goal is to build partnerships in the County with businesses and others who will work with us to meet the needs of our fundraising endeavours to bring state-of-the-art equipment to our hospital. We are proud of RE/MAX’s ongoing efforts to Tee Up Fore Health Care in support of our County hospital,” said Monica Alyea, chair of the PECMH Foundation.
