BACK THE BUILD

Early architectural rendering of new hospital

The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation (PECMHF) is raising $30M to help build a new hospital in Prince Edward County (PEC). The new 96k square foot leading edge hospital is on schedule to open in 2027.

The new hospital will be an incredible example of what small communities need in a local hospital. It will have a 24/7 emergency department, diagnostic imaging, cardio-diagnostic services, 23 inpatient beds with ambulatory, laboratory, and dialysis services. It will also have state-of-the-art infection control and ventilation, wider halls for modern medical equipment and larger, more flexible rooms. Once it is built, our new hospital will advance healthcare in The County. It will be the most significant change to our local healthcare system since the first County hospital opened here in 1919.

Thanks to our generous donors, $23M has been raised!

The funds raised will cover 10% of the cost of the bricks and mortar component of the hospital build, plus the equipment. The other 90% of the hard construction costs will be covered by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care(MOHLTC).

PECMHF is also raising money to help purchase the major medical equipment needed for the new hospital and incorporate environmental sustainability enhancements into the design. This will position your new County hospital to be the first in North America to be net zero carbon!

Investing in our County hospital ensures our future hospital will continue to provide services, including:

  • 23 inpatient beds
  • 24/7 emergency department
  • Acute inpatient unit supported by physicians within the Prince Edward Family Health Team
  • Inpatient pharmacy
  • Satellite hemodialysis unit
  • Ambulatory care, including clinics, medical day care, endoscopy, and medical device reprocessing
  • Diagnostic imaging including CT scanner, x-ray, ultrasound, mammography, and cardio-diagnostics
  • Central laboratory
  • Efficient access to other Quinte Health Care hospitals, secondary care in Belleville and tertiary care in Kingston
  • New helipad

Environmental Sustainability

Our architects are working on a plan that will position the new PECMH to be the first hospital in all of North America to have a mass timber frame. Your donations are also helping the environment by enabling us to explore sustainability, like geothermal, solar energy and smart technology. Please see the images below for more information.
