For more than 39 years, Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation (PECMHF) has been the voice of our community hospital. The foundation helps to advance the hospital’s primary role in our community to provide exceptional health care.
The foundation was established to accept funds donated to the County hospital to ensure they would be protected and available for hospital needs now and in the future. As the complexity of delivering quality health care escalated through the 80s, 90s and into the millennium, the role of the foundation grew more important in the community. Without the foundation raising money, the hospital would not be capable of staying up-to-date with the evolving technology and systems that shape modern medicine.
Since its incorporation in 1985, PECMHF has helped advance fundraising efforts by connecting donors who want to make a difference at Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital.
Our hospital has a rich history.
Prince Edward County Hospital
dates back to April 6, 1919 when it first welcomed patients in the George Alcorn House on Picton’s Hill Street. Forty years later, in 1959, County residents raised $577,000 to build the current hospital located at 403 Main Street, Picton. It was renamed “Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital” in memory of County citizens who never returned from the two Great Wars.
Today, Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital is a vibrant, community hospital that provides inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to individuals of all ages.
In 1998, PECMH became part of a regional system designed to provide residents of
PEC, Quinte West, Belleville and North Hastings
with consolidated, integrated healthcare mirroring the evolving healthcare standards available in other parts of Ontario and Canada. The regional system is operated by
Quinte Health.
