It was a party where everyone was welcome to join!
Filipino culture was celebrated under sunny skies at the Sandbanks Cottages and Campsites in Cherry Valley on July 1 as part of their annual Pinoy Fiesta. The event marked the end of Filipino Heritage Month, recognized during the month of June.
As part of the event, Juanita Abalos-Rejdik, owner of Sandbanks Cottages and Campsites sold t-shirts, mangoes, and other items and donated over $5,000 to the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation’s (PECMHF) Back the Build campaign for the new hospital in Prince Edward County.
“Because of community events like the Pinoy Fiesta, the foundation can invest in lifesaving medical equipment that will be used in our new hospital,” said Barbara McConnell, chairperson of the PECMH Foundation. “Our County’s generosity is remarkable, and we are grateful to Juanita and her community of supporters at Sandbanks Cottages and Campsites who are helping us realize our vision of building a new County hospital through their fundraising efforts.”
Filipino Fiestas are events or festivals where friends and family come together to share the culture of the Philippines. They are rooted in tradition and celebrate patron saints, ethnicity, and important milestones in Philippine history. Attendees can expect to enjoy a day full of entertainment, food, and camaraderie.
“On behalf of Sandbanks Cottages and Campsites, thank you! Thank you to the volunteers, performers, and everyone who came out to enjoy the fiesta,” said Abalos-Rejdik. “We are fortunate to be able to celebrate Philippine Independence and Filipino-Canadian culture while raising funds to ensure patients who visit the new hospital receive the best care that technology, and compassion have to offer in Prince Edward County.”
The team at Sandbanks Cottages and Campsites look forward to hosting a bigger Pinoy Fiesta event next summer. You can visit their website at https://sandbankscottagesandcampsites.com/.
